About Donna

Welcome to the home of Letty Whittaker and Arie Stiles.

And me.

I’m sure you’ll find Letty and Arie far more interesting than yours truly, but if you really want to know something about me, here goes:

I’m a psychotherapist/office manager/writer, not always in that order. Some folks wonder why a therapist would gravitate toward writing mysteries.  It’s the people thing.  Both of my passions deal with relationships and exploring the past to gain a deeper understanding—and, perhaps, better control of—the present.  My favorite quote is by Oscar Wilde:  “The final mystery is oneself.”  It seems to cover facets of both my careers. So I stole it.

I’m also a wife and a mother of two beautiful children.  Three, if you count the husband; sometimes, I do.  Until recently, we owned and operated a residential construction company.  He swung the hammer; I managed the marketing, the paperwork, and dealt with any overly emotional, what-do-you-mean-you-can’t-put-roof-trusses-up-in-a-thunderstorm? clients. Strangely enough, I often came up with ideas for creative murders and hiding bodies during business hours. I mention this for no reason at all.

Currently I’m tangled up in the first draft of the fifth Letty Whittaker 12-Step Mystery, THE LIES WE TELL. In more exciting news, very shortly I’ll be publishing the first in my new series, A SCRYING SHAME, featuring an (unexpectedly psychic) crime scene clean-up tech named Arie Stiles.  I plan to enter A SCRYING SHAME in the Kindle Scout program, but either way it should be ready for publishing by Summer 2015. After that, I’ll be busy plotting the second book, SCRY ME A RIVER.

So big things happening here! If you’d like to be among the first notified for new releases and discounts be sure to sign up for my Readers’ Group!

And, as always, happy reading!

  1. Hi Donna – I am wondering whether you are the Donna White that grew up on Newbury Road in Howell, NJ? I don’t see NJ on your bio anywhere, but there are some definite similarities in your photo. I still live in NJ, but have not been back to Candlewood in over a decade.

  2. Entertaining bio … I just downloaded the first book in the 12-step series and can’t wait to dive in.

  3. Hello Donna,

I really enjoy the Letty series. I’m currently reading the 3rd one…i came across your books by chance, finished the 1st one in about 3 hrs and rushed to Amazon.fr to buy the 2nd and bought a Scrying game as soon as it came out. I live in France and work as a translator so if you ever fancy translating your books 😉
Thanks for the great job. Can’t wait for the next Arie Stiles and Letty!

    1. Oh, my gosh, you’re book binging! I know the feeling. There is no 12 Step program for this. Luckily, I’m working on your next fix: The Lies We Tell. It’s in about the 3rd draft and hopefully will go to my beta readers in the next few weeks. Then to the proofreader, then into your hot little hands. Hang in there! Donna

  4. I absolutely love these books! I am currently reading A Scrying Shame and I just purchased book 5 of the Letty Whitaker series. I also purchased 3 of the books for my sister (who I got hooked on these books as well). These books are so entertaining and I love the story lines.

    1. Ohmigosh! Thank you, Vicky! And thank your sister for me, too. I hope you like Shame as much as you have the Letty books. 🙂

    1. Tara, Your note made a gloomy Monday morning bearable. Wonderful, even! Right now I’m working on the 2nd book in my Blood Visions series, so a Letty book will come after that. You can sign up for my Readers’ Group if you want advance notice and discounts and good stuff. 🙂 Thanks again for your sweet note!

  7. just been reading about your success with KindleScout, and wondered if you would share what you did to get so many nominations?
How do you run around with a begging bowl on the internet?

    1. Hi Anita, I had an established mailing list from my other series so that helped. I also boosted a FB post toward the end of the campaign. But mostly I just did my best to get an attention-grabbing cover and wrote the best book that I possibly could. If you’re looking for more ideas you can check out a thread on Kboards.com Writers’ Cafe called “Kindle Scout Experiences.” It does help that when I was asking for nominations I could also tell people that if A Scrying Shame won they would get a free copy from Amazon.

  8. Hi, Donna
Just found your books! (The giveaway on Amazon). I’m a voracious reader of every genre, but horror, slasher and political thrillers. But I’ve watched “voraciously” mysteries and thrillers on television and movies. So I started reading cozy mysteries, thrillers, and detective mysteries this past couple of years. Is there, or are there books, not that teach to write, but one you found useful in plotting your mysteries?

    1. Yes, Gwyn. I love the book Save the Cat by Blake Snyder. There is also one by Libbie Hawker called “Take Off Your Pants” that is really good as well. You can email me at donnawglaser@gmail.com, if you’d like to talk more. Thanks for reaching out!
